My Thoughts…
You may think this review is biased, I don’t often give something 10 out of 10. So I just want to stress from the get-go that I’m not promoting this product for monetary gain. It’s just something I really, really believe in.
I first discovered Buzz Free Zone Gel a couple of years ago when I was preparing to spend a month in Thailand. I’d been doing a bit of research on mosquito repellent and was a bit bummed out by what I’d found. Most of what was available were full of chemicals and the consensus was that repellents had to contain DEET to be effective.
DEET, or diethyltoluamide, was developed in 1944 by Samuel Gertler and was originally used as a pesticide. It’s supposed to be used on skin and clothing but has been known to have toxic side effects in some situations, affecting the skin, brain and cells of both humans and animals. Was this really something I wanted to be putting on my body every day?
Thanks, but no thanks.
A friend recommended that I check out Karma Skincare for their all-natural products and that’s when I came across Buzz Free Zone Gel. I loved the idea of a repellent made from organic, natural ingredients, with no DEET. I order two bottles straight away.
This gel is absolutely amazing. Not only is it 100% effective (I was in Thailand for a month and only had one bite, on the eyelid, a spot I’d missed with the gel) but it also smells divine. I use it here in Portugal in the summer and every time I smell it it takes me straight back to Thailand. The essential oils give off such a delicate perfume you don’t need to use anything else.
Applied to clean skin, the gel is instantly absorbed so you can get dressed straight away. It stays effective until you wash it off, but unlike the other repellents that contain DEET, you don’t feel the need to wash it off as it’s so gentle on the skin. My skin feels so soft and moisturised when I use it that I don’t bother using any other moisturising products. It’s so gentle that I have no worries about using it on my baby too.
All in all I gave this product a 10/10 because I totally think it deserves it. I have nothing bad to say about it. I love the fact that we can use nature to fight nature and I will continue to use it on me and my family for as long as I need to.

Hi Debbie,
Thank you so much for your honest review. I would love to find mosquito repellent that has no DEET. I am originally from Borneo, Indonesia so I know how important mosquito repellent is. Living in a city covered by forests, river, it’s beautiful but at night we need to spray our house and we’ll sleep in a mosquito net. Sometimes I feel it would be nice not to sleep in a mosquito net. Having a natural repellent could be the answer I was looking for.
Thanks again Debbie.
Take care.

Hi Debbie
I am so glad you introduced me to this natural remedy.
We live in a malaria area and every season many people get it. My son already had malaria three times, he is working as a safari guide out in the bush. We are all natural health freaks and will love this gell.
I believe the smell is out of this world.
Babies have such sensitive skins and I am sure this anti mozzie gell is perfect.
I love your site, the colours are very catchy.
All the best
Stella
The smell is scrumptious, you’ll love it. And it really does work so will definitely be good for your son. Thanks for what you said about my site. It means a lot. Cheers Stella x
