Work From Home Opportunities – A New Future For Us All

Losing our personal freedom and having to stay in isolation is a very foreign concept to most of us. You might feel lonely, out of control, and claustrophobic, or, like me, you may feel quite happy about staying home. You’ve been given all this extra time. Not just by not having to go into work, but by not having to drive here, there and everywhere. Not having to pay obligatory visits to the in-laws. Not whiling away the hours wandering around the shops. Not only that, but work from home opportunities are abundant nowadays.

I thought it might be helpful to some of you if I shared a little secret that I discovered just three months ago. Something that has kept me busy and creative and will hopefully lead to a satisfying job working from home in the future, after all this craziness has calmed down. If you want to make the most of all this extra time you’ve been gifted, this might be the answer.

A Barren Landscape

When I was on maternity leave the company I worked for closed down. My only choice was to go out searching for another job that would be flexible and understanding of the fact that I had a newborn baby (unlikely) or look for some real work at home opportunities.

There are literally millions of online work opportunities being advertised. I know, I signed up for most of them. The majority seem to be just platforms that say they have new projects coming in all the time and they will be in touch then you never hear from them again. That, or the soul-destroying ones that feel completely immoral and shouldn’t really be legal, but I’m bound by contract for the rest of my life not to talk about these. You don’t want to know.

Anyway, I searched and searched month after month. Did a little work here and there. Got paid a pittance. Until one day I just sat back and thought,

“What the hell am I doing?”

I’d been going round and round in circles, never getting anywhere. What’s that saying?

“Only a fool does the same thing over and over again and expects a different result”.

I was that fool and I’d had enough, so I decided then and there that I had to figure out a way to work for myself online. I had no idea what that would look like but my searches started to change. As you probably know, when you start searching for new things, you start getting new things pop up in ads and emails and such. That’s when I saw him.

Planting A Seed

It wasn’t so much the message but the guy that caught my eye (sorry hubby, love you). A 6’2″, very charismatic chap waffling on about working online, affiliate marketing, dropshipping, eCommerce. Most of the stuff he said, I hadn’t a clue what he was talking about, but I found myself being drawn into this idea that I too could make millions online. Did I mention that his videos were usually him in his Porsche, or him in his Miami beach house etc?

Now I know what you’re thinking, “what an idiot” right? But the more I listened the more the idea started to make sense. I soon got over the whole “make millions by next week” thing when he started talking about funnels and the prices he was charging to join his program.

I’m not a complete twit. Like I said before, I’ve been around the internet block and come across my fair share of scams. I did my research and checked out his reviews and although I don’t think he was scamming in the usual sense of the word, I decided that this guy wasn’t for me after all.

But the seed had been planted. Taking away all the glitz and glamour that he was selling, the basic idea he was talking about made sense to me, and I could see how it could work. Now it was just a case of figuring out how I could do it for myself.

Germination Time

As luck would have it, and as is often the way with the internet, one review led to another and the name that kept popping up was “Wealthy Affiliate”. Everywhere I looked, I was seeing this company and everything I read sounded so promising. No one seemed to have anything bad to say about them.

They were pedalling the same idea as the other guy but in a much more down to earth, realistic way. Without the Porches and the promise of millions, but with a lot of hard work, consistency and the opportunity for success in the long term. Best of all it was completely free to try out so I decided to give it a go.

I signed up for free and that entitled me to the whole first level of training, including building my own website.

You can figure out the general idea of what you want to do, understand how to do it, and build a website for it, all for free from this first level of training. Not only that but the company is transparent, you can talk directly with the owners, and all the other members are so friendly and helpful I felt at home straight away. I knew I was in the right place.

Steady Growth

I was so excited as I started to work my way through the training. I hadn’t felt creative in such a long time, in fact, I was pretty sure that I just wasn’t a creative person. And now all of a sudden I can’t sleep at night because my brain is just exploding with ideas. It felt amazing.

It was at the end of my first week that I knew I wanted to stick with this for the long haul. See, Wealthy Affiliate offers the free starter pack, or you can join their premium program and get another four levels of training and loads of extras such as website hosting and tech support.

I’m not going to go into all the details because I’m not trying to sell it to you. The starter pack is excellent and free, there’s no need to join the premium. I’m just sharing with you how it was for me. After so much searching and being disheartened, I’d finally found what I’d been looking for for so long.

This website you’re on now, I built it myself. I now understand WordPress! All the content, written by me. All the images, curated or created by me. I don’t want to blow my own horn but I’m pretty fricking proud of it all, especially considering that just 3 months ago I hadn’t a clue about how to do any of this.

Effort and consistency, that’s what they drill into you here at Wealthy Affiliate, and I can already see that working. I know this is no get-rich-quick scheme. I’ve been involved in enough of those in the past to know that they don’t work. This just feels different. I’m excited about it, and I can see the potential.

Time To Flourish

Now is the perfect time to try something new. The online world seems to be the only one that is likely to flourish for a while, and who knows what the economic landscape will look like when we come out the other side of this pandemic.
